In April of 2002 I spent a night at my grandmother’s house during my hike on the Appalachian Trail. The next morning she was going to hike a little bit with me when she dropped me off. It was cold and raining when we got to the trailhead so Grandmama stayed in the car and waved as I walked into the fog, heading north. This evening I took a stroll along that stretch of trail as the sun set in honor of my grandmother, Elizabeth Ann Stoneburner Hawkins, who went home to be with Jesus on Monday at the age of 90. I love you Grandmama. (Taken with instagram)
